Ares is the Greek name for the God of War, better known by his Roman name of Mars. Son of Zeus and Hera. Member of the Twelve Olympian Gods. Though he was the God of War, this did not mean that he was invincible. In the Trojan wars, e.g., he fought alongside the Trojans, and got severely injured. Only an intervention by his Father, Zeus, was able to save him.
Ares was in love with Aphrodite, the goddess of Love and Beauty, who was married to his brother Hephaistos. They had several affairs, one of which resulted in the birth of Eros (or Cupid), the God of Love.
