Exoplanetology

Exoplanetology is the study of planets outside our Solar System, usually referred to as exoplanets. It is also known as exoplanet science.

Strictly speaking, it is not necessarily an “exoscience” in the same conceptual sense as exopsychology or exosociology. It is essentially planetary science applied to extrasolar planets. Nevertheless, it is fundamental to the exosciences because it establishes the physical environments in which extraterrestrial life might exist.

It provides the observational foundation for questions about habitability, planetary evolution, atmospheric composition and biosignatures.
