Hermetic Tradition

The Hermetic Tradition originated in the first century AD, and is based upon the revelations by Toth, or Hermes Trismegistos ("the thrice greatest").
It deals with alchemy, astrology, and magic, and is a mixture of Egyptian and Greek philosophies and theological ideas.
The central theme of the Hermetic Tradition, as well as that of gnosticism, is the regeneration and deification of humankind through knowledge (gnosis) of the one transcendent God.

The Rosicrucians (called The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn), as well as Drunvalo Melchizedek's Flower of Life movement, incorporate many elements of the hermetic tradition into their philosophies, as do a lot of "magic practitioners."
