Virtues

The Virtues are one of the nine choirs of Angels, and belong to the second sphere. "They are of particular importance to you now because they are able to beam out massive levels of divine energy. As more groups of you learn to work with the virtues, their will be a greater infusion of spiritual energy available on your planet." (Ask Your Angels).

Position in the hierarchy - In the most widely accepted system, developed by Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite in the 5th-6th century, the Virtues are the fifth order overall and the second choir in the middle triad, positioned between the Dominions above and the Powers below.

Primary functions - The Virtues are particularly associated with:

  • Governing the natural laws and order of the universe
  • Overseeing the movements of heavenly bodies and celestial phenomena
  • Bestowing grace and valor, especially to those seeking to do God's will
  • Working miracles and signs on Earth
  • Strengthening human souls with courage and fortitude to endure trials

Name meaning - Their name comes from the Latin "virtutes," meaning "strengths" or "powers," reflecting their role in channeling divine energy and maintaining the physical cosmos.

Attributes - They're often depicted as radiant beings of light, sometimes shown carrying flowers (particularly lilies or roses) or instruments associated with Christ's Passion. Their appearance emphasizes strength combined with grace.

Role with humanity - The Virtues are believed to inspire human virtue, courage, and the ability to perform acts of heroism or sanctity. They help humans overcome obstacles in their spiritual journey.

In tradition - Saints and martyrs were thought to receive special assistance from the Virtues in performing their acts of faith and enduring persecution.

This choir represents the divine power that maintains creation's order while also empowering human spiritual striving.
