Arian

Arian allegedly is the name of a planet that circles Aldebaran (Alpha Tauri), and that's inhabited by a humanoid civilization. So says Martin Wiesengrun who claims to have met some of its inhabitants in 1957.

Astronomical data

Arian would be the 4th planet circling Aldebaran. Current estimates locate Aldebaran at 65.1 LY away. Older estimates situate it approx. 60 LY away, which is in line with the 59 LY Martin Wiesengrün mentions.
Note that there are - thus far unconfirmed reports - of a possible brown dwarf companion, in which case Aldebaran would be a binary system.
Allegedly the natives call their sun Raula. Arian's orbit around it would take approx. 20.2 earth years to complete.

Physical Appearance

The Arians are humanoid beings, some Caucasian looking, though some had slanted eyes, giving them a slightly more oriental appearance. The men were ca 2,3 m.tall, while the women were around 2m. They had all different colors of hair: brown, red, and even blue.

Allegedly the average life expectancy on Arian is 4742 earth years.
When Martin met them, they were wearing helmets, and silver-like jumpsuits.

On board their craft he met other species as well: one of them from a planet Uru, which is the second planet orbiting Raula. They were European looking and about 1.7 meters tall. Some had brown skin.

Case Information

This is a contactee case that involved Martin Wiesengrün (a pseudonym), and that was investigated by Wendelle Stevens.

The contact happened in the summer of 1957 in Glowe, on Rügen island, off the Baltic coast, in the former DDR. He was 15 at the time. He was invited aboard their ship where he stayed for 3 days to get an education which they had planned for him.

On board he met several species, not all of which were from Arian.

One of the things they told him was that they had lived on Earth - in what is now Greenland - and were present 65 million years ago, when an asteroid hit. They also mention Atlantis.

According to Wiesengrün's account, the contact was preceded by several weeks of precursor phenomena: in June and July 1957 he repeatedly observed a silent, oval, fringed shadow (approx. 5m across) passing over him near his hiding place on the coast, each time followed by an inexplicable sense of peace. On July 18th he first saw the craft directly — two large discs, one round and one triangular, hovering 150-200m overhead. The night before formal contact, he reports a dream in which two antennaed beings invited him to meet them, and in the dream he negotiated the date and time (July 23rd, 4:00 AM).

First contact took place at 3:40 AM on July 23, 1957, at an abandoned farmstead near his hiding place. Two beings emerged matching his dream exactly: a smaller female (approx. 2.2m) and a larger male (approx. 2.3m), both helmeted and wearing silver fitted spacesuits with chrome visors, wrist-to-shoulder hoses, and a yellow reversed-"Z" emblem at the chest.

Martin was taken first aboard a small craft (50-60m diameter, triangular with rounded wingtips, crew of five), which later docked with a considerably larger transport vessel he refers to as the "Zubringer" — which in turn connected with the Mother Ship itself, said to be parked some 12 light-hours further out. (Note: the text gives inconsistent figures for the Zubringer's size — 120m x 50m in one place, 800m long in another; possibly a translation or transcription error.)

Key Individuals Named in the Account

  • Dagolo: female scientist from Arian, described as leading a "Galactic Research Center" aboard the Mother Ship. Said to be 61 Arian years old (1,230 Earth years by the text's own conversion). Physically described with copper-brown skin, long brown hair, reddish eyes, and four fingers per hand. Portrayed as telepathically able to read and influence Martin's thoughts throughout his stay. She addresses Martin by the name "Andreas."
  • Ti: introduced as a being from Uru, the second planet of the same sun as Arian. (Alternate-source note: at one point the text also attributes an origin on the planet Pall to "Ti," which conflicts with Ti's own self-introduction as being from Uru — possibly a translation ambiguity, unresolved pending review of the original German text.)
  • An unnamed scientist from the planet Gne: described as having a distinctive rounded ("bud") nose; per the secondary chapter summary (unconfirmed against primary text), she later delivers a lecture on the history of Earth writing systems.
  • "The Pallian": a hairy, androgynous scientist from the planet Pall, described as one of the more talkative and argumentative members of the panel.
  • The Commandant of the small craft: unnamed, female, described separately from Dagolo: slender build, high cheekbones, dark eyes, reddish-brown hair, approx. 1.9-2m tall.
  • Two further beings introduced at the first onboard meal: a woman (approx. 1.17m, yellowish skin, wavy hair, high cheekbones) and a man (approx. 1.5m, gray-skinned, hairless, European features), both marked with a star-and-"Z" insignia said to denote a home star "three stars above" Dagolo's own.
  • Krotk: per the secondary chapter summary only (Ch. 11-15, not yet confirmed against primary source text): a youth born aboard the Mother Ship who becomes Martin's guide for technology demonstrations later in his stay.

Other Civilizations & Planets Mentioned

In addition to Arian and Uru (see above), Wiesengrün's account names several further worlds as part of a wider community of space-faring "hominid races":

  • Gne: third planet of its own sun, roughly Earth-sized but with much less surface water; said to have engineered a neighboring planet, Pu, to accommodate population overflow. Given as approximately 850 light-years from Arian.
  • Pall: the seventh and only inhabited planet of its own sun (itself described as roughly three times the size of Earth's sun). Pallians are described as normally androgynous; when two individuals form a sufficiently deep and lasting bond, one is said to transform biologically into a female and bear children. Lifespan given as up to 360 years, with population held stable rather than increasing.
  • Satanis: named as the fifth planet of Earth's own solar system (with Earth third and Mars fourth), destroyed or displaced in an ancient cataclysm and said to have become the asteroid belt. A "Satanian" scientist appears in the secondary chapter summary (Ch. 11) but is unconfirmed against the primary text.

(Alternate-source note: the native name for Aldebaran's sun appears as "Arula" in the primary chapter text, versus "Raula" as given elsewhere in the secondary summary. Both trace to the same underlying source material, so this may be a transliteration inconsistency rather than a substantive conflict.)

Additional Technology & Onboard Details

  • A handheld translation device is described, linked to a shipboard "Language Knowledge Container" said to hold all past and present Earth languages alongside those of other worlds.
  • Dagolo and other beings are repeatedly described as able to telepathically sense and, in some instances, directly influence Martin's thoughts.
  • Martin reports an overnight procedure in which hair-thin electrodes were painlessly inserted at multiple points on his body (including into the brain) while he slept, said to record both biological and — per Dagolo's explanation — "soul" data. He is told that the body dies but that the soul of each individual is immortal, and that the recorded data would "open new abilities" for him later in life.
  • Meals aboard are described as largely vegetarian, though including snake meat specifically raised aboard the Mother Ship, and Earth crops (e.g. corn) are described as diminished descendants of larger originals from the visitors' worlds.
